EDA Termination Status

Last updated May 18, 2012

WHAT IS A TERMINATION? A termination filing (UCC-3) can signify that the financial agreement has been fulfilled on a piece of equipment. An original UCC-1 financing statement is effective for five years from the date of its filing and is automatically terminated after the five year period. A UCC-1 can be extended for another five years if a continuation statement is filed within months 54 to 60. Conversely, when a financing agreement is paid in full prior to the five year period, the lender should file a UCC-3 to terminate the existing UCC-1 filing and remove the lien.
  • MOST RECENT TERMINATION:
This represents the transaction date of the most recent termination (UCC-3) processed by EDA.
  • DAYS SINCE END DATE:
This identifies the number of days since the most recent termination processed by EDA.
  • HOW WE GET TERMINATIONS:
EDA acquires UCC-3 (termination) filings from each state. The UCC-3 document references the original UCC-1 filing that is being terminated. Based on our information, EDA compares the termination to all previous UCC-1 filings in our database. When there is a match between the filing ID that is being terminated and the UCC-1 filing ID in our database, EDA reports all the equipment on the original UCC-1 filing as terminated.
  • WHY WE RECEIVE TERMINATIONS FASTER THAN UCC-1s:
We are able to provide termination data more frequently than the other statuses (sale, lease, rental, etc.) because we receive the termination filings in a slightly different format and they are matched to existing UCC-1 filings we already have on file.
